Adversarial Infrastructure

This project employs deepfake production as a form of counter-propaganda in order to destabilise representations of Russian colonialism. The term "adversarial" comes from its use in deep learning: adversarial machine learning is based on the idea that algorithms learn via competition. Even though their functions are programmed to oppose each other, if combined into one neural network, the entrapment of two algorithms in a looped contest strengthens the neural network as a whole. This same capacity defines Adversarial Infrastructure: while divergent functions may appear to create friction and technical problems for one another, they actually strengthen the infrastructure's ability to inflict harm.
