Situated Deepfakes Workshop

Hosted by LOA Gallery, London, UK (Online)

Part One ▶ A critical overview of the contemporary economy of deepfakes, questioning the universal nature of the threat they are supposed to possess. By paying attention to the context and language used to produce deepfakes, they will be presented as a practice of situated knowledge production in a non-Western context. This notion allows us to explore what radical political imaginations can emerge from this media practice.

Part Two ▶ A practical engagement with technology. Participants will be given a chance to produce their own deepfakes, reflecting the ethical considerations explored in the first part of the workshop.
